God is alive and well on  Planet Earth

In the late 1800’s from the journal of Friedrich Nietzsche came the statement “God Is Dead”. Nietzsche, whose father and grandfather were ministers, almost followed in their footsteps until he went to college. There he came under the teachings of a professor who caused him to deny the faith of his forefathers. Denying your faith was more popular in the 1960’s when America was moving away from her Godly heritage. A generation later, young people ask “if there is a God, why doesn’t he help us like He did in Biblical times?” Understand, other than the Exodus the miracles he did were rare for those to see. Let’s see what God has been up to for the last 250 years.

The Bulletproof George Washington

On July 9th 1755, during the French and Indian War, 23 year-old Colonel Washington was part of a company with the British which was ambushed by the enemy. The officers had been a special target for the Indians. Of eighty-six British and American officers, sixty-three were casualties. Washington was the only officer on horseback not shot down.
Following the battle, Washington wrote a letter to his brother in which he readily and openly acknowledged: "By the all-powerful dispensations of Providence, I have been protected beyond all human probability or expectation; for I had four bullets through my coat, and two horses shot under me, yet I escaped unhurt, although death was leveling my companions on every side of me!"
Fifteen years later, an old, respected Indian chief sought out Washington. The chief, explaining that he had led the Indians against them in the battle fifteen years earlier, revealed to Washington what had occurred behind the scenes during the conflict: "I called to my young men and said, mark yon tall and daring warrior [Washington]?...Himself is alone exposed. Quick, let your aim be certain, and he dies. Our rifles were leveled, rifles which, but for you, knew not how to miss--'twas all in vain, a power mightier far than we shielded you. Seeing you were under the special guardianship of the Great Spirit, we immediately ceased to fire at you...I am come to pay homage to the man who is the particular favorite of Heaven, and who can never die in battle."

The Burning of Washington D.C. during the War of 1812

When the British captured Washington D.C. they were burning different buildings and other parts. During the occupation, a hurricane which, included a tornado, passed through, bringing heavy damage to the enemy. This miracle quickly dissipated and helped put out the fires.

God provision of water at Andersonville prison

On August 16th,1864, Andersonville prison was overcrowded; The south was losing the war and there was not enough food for the prisoners. Water was scarce and the men were dying nearly 100 a day. A group of Christian men came to a certain spot and cried out to God for water. Soon after they finished praying, a lighting bolt hit the ground, spewed forth water, and has been running ever since. There is a stone house that was erected in 1901, at Providence Well. The following inscription is on the wall: "The Prisoners' cry of thirst rang up to Heaven; God heard, and with His thunder cleft the earth and poured his sweet water came rushing here." On another side of this house is the inscription: "God smote the hillside and gave them drink, August 16, 1864.

The Bulletproof Douglas Macarthur

In 1914, under the command of General Frederick Funston, MacArthur engaged a long-range reconnaissance mission behind Mexican lines concerning Veracruz. Several times he was ambushed and at times shot at close range, though he never was wounded. Once he returned to the fort he realized that his shirt was full of holes, but not a scratch was on him. Macarthur was cited for bravery and recommended for a Medal of Honor.

The Plague of Grasshoppers

During the years from 1873 – 1877 the State of Minnesota was going through year after year of grain loss due to the Plague of Grasshoppers. During the plague of 1877, Governor Pillsbury called for a day of prayer to take place on April, 26, 1877. A sleet storm followed which killed all the grasshoppers. In Cold Spring, Minnesota, a chapel was built to honor the miracle.

The White Cavalry of World War I

In June of 1918 while the American forces were just arriving the Germans were advancing each day. The English as well as the Americans thought that the Germans might break through and possibly win the war. The nations of America and England called for a National Day of Prayer.
Sometime later near the town of Bethune, the Germans were advancing and lines were broken. As they were approaching the town of Bethune, the Germans met the White Cavalry. These men in white uniform on white horses were approaching them. When they opened fire on them not a man or horse fell. Eventually great fear fell upon them and they retreated giving the Allies time to regroup and hold the line until the Americans came.

Alvin York

York was the young Tennessean private whose faith in God caused him to struggle concerning killing during World War I. Once in the military he was given 10 days leave to decide what he should do. During his stay he went to a hill to pray. The Spirit of God came to him and told him to go on into battle and not a hair on his head would be harmed. He went and not only did he stop several machine guns, he killed over 20 of the enemy, and captured 132 prisoners he was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor.

Eddie Rickenbakker

In October 1942, Rickenbacker a World War I ace was sent on a tour of the Pacific theater to review conditions, operations, and to personally deliver a secret message to General MacArthur. After visiting bases in Hawaii, the B-17 in which he was flying went off course.
After running out of fuel, the pilot ditched the plane in the Pacific, dangerously close to Japanese-held enemy territory. For 24 days, Rickenbacker, and others drifted at sea. The crew's food supply ran out after three days.
On Day 8 a seagull landed on Rickenbacker's head. Rickenbacker painstakingly caught it, and the survivors meticulously divided it equally and used some for fishing bait. They lived on sporadic rain water and similar food "miracles." Rickenbacker assumed a role of leadership, encouragement, and browbeating to help the others survive, and encouraged them to turn to God for solace.
According to Rickenbacker, each person on the rafts converted to Christianity after the experience. The Army Air Corps, unable to find them, intended to abandon the lost crew after searching unsuccessfully for more than two weeks, but Rickenbacker's wife convinced them to extend the search another week. The search was extended and Rickenbacker and the crew were found..

Mitsuo Fuchida

On December 7, 1941 God started dealing with a man who was the lead pilot of the attack on Pearl Harbor. The man was Mitsuo Fuchida. Several things happened to him which would be a testimony of God’s protection on his life. These were:
1. After he returned to the carrier following the battle of Pearl Harbor his airplane had 20 anti-aircraft holes in it.
2. He had an appendectomy during the Battle of Midway. When told to rest he went to walk out the deck and a torpedo came and wiped out the medical section where he had Previously been. Later he was injured and was sent to Tokyo.
3. Near the end of the war, Fuchida was at A meeting at Hiroshima on August 5th 1945. Soon afterwards he was called back to Tokyo. The next day the Atomic Bomb was dropped. Again, something had spared his life.
4. In the days that followed he and a team of officers were sent to ground zero to inspect the damage and report to the emperor. Within a couple of weeks the entire team had died from radiation poisoning except Fuchida. After the war, Fuchida became a Christian and minister of the Gospel to the Orient.

Conclusion

God is not dead, I talked to Him this morning and He is very much alive! He has shown His power and Godhead so that they are without excuse Romans 1:20

The Lord is not …willing that any should perish but all come to repentance. II Peter 3:9

You may be reading this and you have never answered the most important question in your life and that is …

How does anyone get to heaven?

First realize that they cannot get to heaven on their own merits. The Bible says that “For all have sinned and come short (that means everybody can’t get to Heaven on their own) of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23)

Jesus Christ (who is the Son of the living God) came to earth and was born of a virgin woman (therefore he was not born of the curse of mankind) he lived a sinless life and died on a cross for all the sins in the world. Three days later, God the Father raised Him from the dead. He was seen of 500 witnesses and returned to heaven. God’s word says that if we believe these things and call upon the Lord, we will be saved. Romans 10:9 - 13
