What the Bible says about Sodomites
“…the men of the city, even the men of Sodom, compassed the house round, both old and young, all the people from every quarter: And they called unto Lot, and said unto him, Where are the men which came in to thee this night? bring them out unto us, that we may know them. And Lot went out at the door unto them, and shut the door after him, and said, I pray you, brethren, do not so wickedly. Behold now, I have two daughters which have not known man; let me, I pray you, bring them out unto you, and do ye to them as is good in your eyes: only unto these men do nothing; for therefore came they under the shadow of my roof. And they said Stand back. And they said again, This one fellow came in to sojourn, and he will needs be a judge: now will we deal worse with thee, than with them. And they pressed sore upon the man, even Lot, and came near to break the door.” Genesis 19:4 – 9
The U.S. Supreme Court declared that Sodomy is no longer illegal, thus giving Sodomites (homosexuals) more opportunity to spread their reprobate practices and wickedness across our once God-honored country. Will it stop there? No. This form of perversion will only grow. It is never satisfied.
What does God’s holy word have to say on this subject? It is first mentioned in the Book of Genesis during the time of Abraham. In chapter 19 we see what happens to a community that refuses to deal with this immoral behavior.
• Lot was a ruler in the city of Sodom, he sat at the gates (a place of rule)
• Lot realized that the two men were from God. He knew they were in great danger of the men from the city and compelled them to stay in his house.
• The men were seen and because of the men of the city and their lust for this sin, they had no regard for personal liberties. They were willing to break the law and do harm to one that had the rule over them to feed their lust.
• Some would say that Lot had no regard for his daughters, but the custom of the land during that time period taught that if one invited a person into their home, they were to protect them with their life. Lot knew that his daughters were safe. He probably knew they would not take them, and was maybe buying time.
• The term “know them” meant to be intimate with them sexually, that is why Lot said “do not so wickedly”. The plan was to rape the men.
• When it reached that point, God destroyed them.
The next time God deals with this type of sin is during the Exodus. God told Moses that anyone that engages in the act of Sodomy, especially with the same gender, would be put to death. This was a problem that other nations were having and God did not want his people to be defeated in this sin.
Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination. Leviticus 18:22
During the time of the Kings of Israel, good king Asa, did that which was right in the eye of the Lord and drove out the sodomites out of the land. (I Kings 5:12) God approved of those that were in authority to enforce laws against such immoral acts and those that engaged in them and remove them. Throughout the Old Testament God condemned this act as sin and punishable by death.
In the New Testament
“For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet. And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; Romans 1:26-28
This was a problem in the Roman Empire as it was centuries earlier with the Grecian empire. During the time of the Greeks, men such as Plato, Aristotle, and Socrates were sodomites and engaged in this perversion with some of their students. The early Olympics, young men who participated in the events did so with no clothes on and women were not permitted to attend. Later this act would drive men wild with abominable acts of sin until it was considered normal and even promoted up until the empire came to an end.
When the Pilgrims first came to America the crime of Sodomy was known as “Buggery”. This act carried a punishment of death in most of the colonies. During the Revolutionary War, a soldier was court marshaled for attempting to commit this act. George Washington wrote about this terrible act and said that it demoralized the military as well as society.
As late as 1960, all fifty states had laws against Sodomy. In one generation all the laws have been repealed. When I was stationed in San Francisco, I saw the wickedness of this practice with my own eyes in the streets. I saw them do serious damage to a church that stood up against them. They had no regard for personal life, just like those of Sodom.
Just recently a female speaker spoke at a sodomite church saying how we need to love the gay Christians. Recently, Massachusetts Supreme Court ruled in favor of gay marriages. Now, some conservatives are considering that being gay is something you are born with. They further say that studies have been done in rats that suggest that there might be a chromosome that proves you are born a sodomite.
Are we willing to take a study that shows virtually no evidence done by men and women who know next to nothing or do we believe an everlasting, loving God who loves the world so much that He gave the ultimate sacrifice of his Son, so we could have life everlasting? One is right and the other is wrong
Many teach that one sin is no different than any other. Jesus said for those who rejected the gospel, it would be more tolerable for those of Sodom than them. Let us not forget that this is an act of wickedness in which God gave them up, to vile affections. This act is not natural.
The worst enemy to the sodomite community is the one who says it okay to be one. These people need help and most will probably die in their sins. The worst thing that can happen to a person who suffers from a problem is to tell him or her that it’s not a problem.
The worst thing you can say to a sodomite is to say God accepts his or her lifestyle and welcomes them in his big happy family. Just like any sin, one has to repent which means to turn from it and allow God to cleanse them from sin.
Not every one that saith unto me Lord, Lord, shall enter the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my father which is in heaven. Matthew 7:21
• In the days of Lot when the sodomities were the majority, those who where against them were raped and killed. God had to intervene in Lot’s case.
• When God’s rulers were in place, such as King Asa, then the sodomites were driven from the land.
• During the first century Rome, Christians were put to the sword and sodomites. Some of the Caesars who killed Christians were sodomites.
• In the times of our Founding Fathers there were laws that brought death to those that committed such acts.
Today, men and women are abusing our laws and removing our Godly heritage each step of the way. At the same time wickedness such as this is growing each day. History will show that sodomites will soon have more freedom than Christians if a national revival does not take place. That means pastors and teachers are going to have to start preaching and teaching from the word of God instead of what they were taught in college or by a study done that twisted God’s word. Only then will God’s people truly be the salt of the earth.
Recently, professing Christian leaders are calling for unity toward these people, but this is only hurting them and condemning them to a Christ less grave.
Maybe you are struggling with this lifestyle and your wanting freedom from this. The first thing to do is to settle the question of where you will spend eternity.
How does anyone get to heaven?
First realize that they cannot get to heaven on their own merits. The Bible says that “For all have sinned and come short (that means everybody can’t get to Heaven on their own) of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23)
Jesus Christ (who is the Son of the living God) came to earth and was born of a virgin woman (therefore he was not born of the curse of mankind) he lived a sinless life and died on a cross for all the sins in the world. Three days later, God the Father raised Him from the dead. He was seen of 500 witnesses and returned to heaven. God’s word says that if we believe these things and call upon the Lord, we will be saved. Romans 10:9 - 13
