The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU): Friend or Foe
Just recently I have been listening to several radio stations during the Christmas holidays, and find it amazing how Americans are fed up with the attacks on Christmas. One school district in Texas sent letters home to parents that during the Winter Holiday break (Christmas is forbidden to be said) that children are not to wear green and red together or bring decorations of that color because of the separation of church at state (which is a myth). Every time a law suit attacks religion in any way the America Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) is behind it.
So who is behind the ACLU and why do they have such an attack upon religion? To find the answer, like any subject we must start at the beginning where they first got their start.
The year was 1920, when the ACLU first started. Socialism was a big threat to America, Russia was now the U.S.S.R. and many were concerned about the United States becoming a socialist nation.
In 1892 the same year the Supreme Court made mention that America was indeed a Christian nation, Francis Bellemy wrote the Pledge of Allegiance. Bellemy a socialist minister shared a vision of America becoming a socialist nation by the year 2000. The original wording of the pledge is not what it is today. Especially the words “Under God”, it was towards a socialist philosophy.
By the beginning of the 20th Century the government was alarmed of the growing threat of Socialism and took steps in stopping it. The biggest threat to Socialism is God. In a socialistic world the people need to understand that their freedoms or rights come from the Government not God (Creator). To make that ideal happen, several organizations were formed to promote a socialistic mindset, thus the ACLU was born. One of their highest goals was to remove the influence of God from our Society. This was a tall order, for God was in every area of public life.
For instance in pubic schools in 1900 God could be found in the following:
• Bible reading
• Creation was taught as the only theory of beginnings
• Bibles were given to children to read and was used to teach the children in the area of Morality
• The Ten Commandments were posted on the wall of nearly every school in the nation
• Children were spanked and taught reverence to authority because of its biblical origins.
Who were some of the founding members of the ACLU?
Roger Baldwin – Who was the long time, director of ACLU, was deeply involved in the communist movement. As late as 1935, he gave a speech stating that his political vision was communist.
Norman Thomas - a Presbyterian minister and radical socialist who advocated the total abolition of capitalism. He was also a eugenicist along with Margaret Sanger, who warned against the excessive reproduction of undesirables. Thomas was a six time Socialist Party presidential candidate. Also a committed pacifist, he joined Charles Lindbergh's American First Committee to keep us out of World War II.
Helen Keller - a communist. The movie “'The Miracle Worker” told us that she was a great teacher and struggled after being left blind and deaf from a childhood fever. For that, she must be admired.
Keller made remarkable progress from that point and ultimately, with Sullivan’s help, graduated with honors in 1904 from Radcliffe University, which was known for its liberal teachings. During the early 1920s, she wrote and spoke flatteringly about the two competing and emerging German variations of socialism, the national socialism of Adolf Hitler and international revolutionary socialism, or communism.
Radicalized at Radcliffe, she addressed others, as she was often addressed, as 'Comrade'. Ironically, under the eugenics of German National Socialism, Keller would likely have been judged as flawed and exterminated for having been so vulnerable to have been left damaged by her illness.
Felix Frankfurter - a social reformer, became interested in ACLU Frankfurter would later be appointed to the Supreme Court by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. He was known for judicial restraint and deference to the legislative and executive branches, which may have endeared him to FDR who had already steamrollered congress into obeisance. Later, this attitude would irritate liberals who looked to the courts for the furtherance of their causes. He was instrumental in supporting the myth “Separation of Church & State” which led to the removing of Biblical principals from public schools.
John Dewey – A radical socialist educator who believed that the function of the educational system was to train future agents for the goals of the state. His educational theories dominate our system today. He also saw that the most deadliest enemy of the state was religion. In 1932 he signed “The Humanistic Manifesto” which declared that there was no creator
Clarence Darrow - Famous by Hollywood in the movie 'Inherit The Wind' and the Left for defending teacher John Scopes for teaching evolution. He was an agnostic. Years after returning to Dayton, Tn.. He saw a church being built and commented “I guess I didn’t do my job” which meant he had hoped by attacking the foundation of Christianity, it would lead Christians to abandoned God.
ACLU’s Number One Enemy
Since we have already learned that socialism’s enemy is God, let us look at the cases that have taken place since 1920 that has removed the influence of biblical principals.
1925 – Scopes Trial, in this case the ACLU was trying to get a teacher to purposely break the Tennessee law which did not allow evolution to be taught. The thought was to let all theories to be taught side by side and let each student make there own choice.
By the early 1960’s their true nature was discovered. Once they had a foot in the door through the lie of “Separation of Church and State” they started removing anything that hinted of Christianity.
I find it amazing that a web site that promoted the following:
“Church-state separation is the common denominator among the controversies of;
• Woman's right to control her body,
• Equal civil rights for gays,
• Prayer in public school,
• Posting the 10 Commandments in public buildings,
• Faith-based grants to religious organizations,
• Teaching creationism and intelligent design in public schools,
• Vouchers for private parochial schools, etc.
The group that printed the above statement, encouraged its readers to join their local ACLU or other groups that are against the influence of biblical principals. These groups will not stop until Christianity is outlawed in our country.
Some people feel that it will not come to that, but if my Great Grandmother had lived to see what is happening today see would had been shocked of what has happened to the school system.
A person or group’s foundation will dictate their future. While the real attack is against Christianity not religion (Secular Humanism was declared by the Supreme Court as a religion). Just like in Communist Russia, or the French Revolution, the influence of Christianity had to be removed before these ideals could be advanced.
When one studies our early America documents, one will discover that this nation’s foundation was Biblical Christianity.
What is sad is when God’s people buy into the lie of our society
If the foundations be destroyed what can the righteous do Psalm 11:3
You may be reading this and you have never answered the most important question in your life and that is …
How does anyone get to heaven?
First realize that they cannot get to heaven on their own merits. The Bible says that “For all have sinned and come short (that means everybody can’t get to Heaven on their own) of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23)
Jesus Christ (who is the Son of the living God) came to earth and was born of a virgin woman (therefore he was not born of the curse of mankind) he lived a sinless life and died on a cross for all the sins in the world. Three days later, God the Father raised Him from the dead. He was seen of 500 witnesses and returned to heaven. God’s word says that if we believe these things and call upon the Lord, we will be saved. Romans 10:9 - 13
